After all - this is a vacation so it’s important to spend time really winding down on some of Peru’s most exclusive beaches, where you can contemplate all of the incredible wonders you have just witnessed throughout the country.

In this article we’ll explore the very best Peru beaches, which ones are best for a vacation and anything else you need to know. We’ll also answer your most frequent questions too at the end of the article.

The Best Northern Peru Beaches

Northern Peru is known for its tropical and deserted beaches, where we can also enjoy a hot climate year-round. Here we can find long expansive sands and popular beach resorts, so you won’t be short of beautiful options here.

Punta Sal

Peru’s de-facto beach resort town, it doesn’t get any better than Punta Sal. Located way up in the northmost region of Piura, here we can enjoy a tropical climate all months of the year, along with expansive white sandy beaches. Punta Sal is known for its exclusive luxury hotels and beach resorts, so rest assured you’ll be enjoying the finest service as you enjoy the warm beaches in proper style here. At The Luxury Peru Travel Company, many of our guests choose Punta Sal for its year-round warm weather and luxury beach resorts - and as such we highly recommend visiting here during your trip in Peru.

Las Pocitas

Located just a stone’s throw away from the popular beachside town of Máncora, Las Pocitas is also located within Peru’s most northern region of Piura. Long expansive white sands go on as far as the eye can see, and low tides also reveal beautiful pools of water from the rocky outcroppings. There are also many beautiful boutique beach stays here where we can enjoy first-class treatment, making it a perfect place to enjoy the beach as well as the atmosphere of nearby Máncora.

Huanchaco

Slightly further south than Piura we can find the lively beach town of Huanchaco, within the La Libertad region. Very easy to access from Trujillo, this beach town has its charming sandy and pebble beaches - however the real attraction here is its coastal culture. Here we can visit the pre-Inca Moche sites of Chan Chan and Huaca del Sol, whilst also enjoying some of Peru’s very best fresh Ceviche.

The Best Central & Southern Peru Beaches

Stretching down from Lima to Arequipa and beyond, Peru’s central and southern beaches offer both charm and beautiful beach resort towns. While temperatures limit swimming to the months between November and April, their easy accessibility from the capital makes them a must-include during these months.

San Bartolo

While there are beaches directly within the city of Lima, the very best are around an hour south - and San Bartolo easily tops the list, offering a more quiet and exclusive beach-escape away from the crowds. Luxury, white Santorini-esque apartments and hotels line from above the hills, where we can enjoy incredible Peruvian cuisine in restaurants that line the beach. Like with other beaches around Lima, be sure to book in advance if heading between November and February as this is the high season.

Punta Hermosa

Similar to San Bartolo with its scenic cliffs and beautiful Pacific backdrop, Punta Hermosa is a fantastic beach to visit from Lima. As well as strolling along the malecón and enjoying the waters with more relaxation than the other beaches mentioned, it’s also a great place to go surfing. As well as having areas of the beach that are ideal for swimming, there are also long stretches of golden sand which makes it easy to find your spot for total relaxation.

La Mina

Located further south in the region of Ica, La Mina is easily one of Peru’s most stunning beaches for its natural landscapes. Situated within the National Reserve of Paracas, we can enjoy turquoise waters that are great for swimming, with desert cliffs surrounding from all sides. From La Mina it’s also simple to take a tour out to swim with Sea Lions too - if this takes your fancy. Although it’s located far from Lima - getting to La Mina is simple with our private, comfortable vehicles when booking your Peru vacation with us.

Frequently Asked Questions About Peru Beaches

Below we’ll now answer some of the frequent questions we get about Peru‘s beaches, as well as anything else important that you need to know.

Does Peru Have Nice Beaches?

Peru has an incredible variety of beaches, offering something to please everyone. Whilst not your quintessential Caribbean beaches from Mexico, Piura in Peru’s north still offers white sands, rows of palm trees and hot temperatures. Further south we can find beautiful beach towns like those of Punta Hermosa and San Bartolo, as well as desert beaches like La Mina.

Is The Ocean Warm In Peru?

Within the north of Peru, ocean temperatures can be classed as mild to cool, and are comfortable to go swimming in (especially within the summer months). Around Lima and the south, temperatures can be cold in the ocean, and especially so within the winter months. If you’re thinking of swimming in Lima’s waters, we suggest visiting between the months of December and March.

Can You Swim In Lima’s Beaches?

Although waves and currents can be strong along Lima’s coast, there are a few beaches that are both safe and ideal for swimming. This includes La Herradura and Agua Dulce within the city, and also both Punta Hermosa and San Bartolo - which are located just an hour's drive from the Peruvian capital. As always, be sure to get extra local guidance for any other beaches before visiting.
